The invitations go out several days before the date of the actual party, in order to give people time to prepare if they want to use the excuse to give the guest of honour any gifts.

On the actual day of the party, the Enclosure's been set to replicate a racetrack, with an array of motorcycles and hoverbikes along the outer ring, robots reminiscent of the Enposib's chorebots on hand to serve as pit crew if necessary.

The door opens onto a large pavilion above the track, with comfortable seating and tables set with an array of drinks and snacks. Real food and Enclosure-generated fare are clearly labelled. There's a separate table holding a nicely bound guestbook (real), and a banner above it reads Bon voyage, Ethan.

There are stairs leading down to the track for anyone who wants to try out the bikes - or set up a race - and a narrow bridge to the grassy space at the track's centre.

Neighborly Meeting [ Closed ]

Word is given to Yelena and B by word of mouth; both are so frequently seen by or near the infirmary it's easy to pass a quiet request to meet at his cabin to speak. A time is agreed to and it should be just as simple to get there discreetly.

Yelena literally lives across the hall and B's her warden. Nothing suspicious about these people heading to this shared spot.

On knocking, visitors are let in. Vincent is back to his usual self, any signs of the death toll gone as if they'd never happened. His cabin is its usual orderliness, soft, antique furnishing with red upholstery and soft light. There is coffee waiting, the things to make tea and water as offerings.

There is also a small pile of papers and file folders; a collection of notes and observations Vincent has collected and neatly organized on the subject they're meeting to discuss.

From Friday through the weekend, Laura goes about her days as usual. If one crosses paths with her she might be quicker to smile, happier to engage in conversation or (gasp) more positive about things on the Barge. It's subtle, at least to her, so she doesn't particularly seem to notice the change in her personality.

By Tuesday, Laura seems to be a little more pensive and thoughtful. Conversations with her might take on a more philosophical edge as she chews over her life, both leading up to her arriving on the Barge and the turn it's taken in the three plus years since.

The rest of the week, she spends her time painting in the gazebo or reading in the library. Moose and her take to the Enclosure, too, for some much needed exercise.

Friday: Sweeney’s brain is buzzing and his fingers tingle with the need to create. It’s something that gets him back to his roots--his earliest roots--where arts and civilization were his domains to oversee.

He finds inspiration in many places: throwing pots in the Art Gazebo, sketching in the Greenhouse, and writing near the fractal tree on Level 8 and up on the Deck.

Saturday: A bridge between the impulse to create physically and the visions that will come the next day; Sweeney spends a lot of time thinking. Catching up on work, he’s found in the Kitchen and Dining Room, being productive.

Sunday and Monday: The days leave him distracted, but not in a bad way. Much of it is caught up in trying to make sense to the various swaths of potentials that Might Be. He can be found in his common haunts of the Greenhouse and Speakeasy, but he’s less likely to initiate conversation; his mind is often elsewhere.

Tuesday: A sense of calm hangs about him, and while he isn’t overtly jovial, there’s an ease in his demeanor that’s more welcoming than normal, as he goes about his business.

Gojyo might not necessarily give off the impression of a guy who has a kitchen, but everyone has their own mysteries! It might or might not be surprising that he has an organized looking cabin in general (though his furniture has yet to fall prey to... certain people's opinions on how they could be upgraded), but it's not a level of neat and organized that gives off the impression of any sort of obsessiveness.

The kitchen itself... definitely has the air of a place that mostly used by people who have extremely specific opinions on where everything should go and that it should remain in the place where it goes. It's a specificity that might not always match what someone else might consider a more obvious place, but that doesn't make it any less organized.

Aerith may have noticed a closed door when going through into the kitchen. Sometimes that means the roommate Gojyo may not have brought up in casually conversation is out. Sometimes it doesn't mean that.

Note: Locations are similar for both prompts, I'm just splitting things up by age of the other character to help me keep track. You can hit me up here or on plurk for plotting.

Part of the steady stream of flood-affected children is a small blonde girl, round-faced and far too wary-eyed for a ten-year-old. It's unlikely that there's anyone on the lookout for her as the flood begins. Yelena hasn't been sighted since shortly after the last flood ended, after all. There's no fresh disappearance to tip anyone off to the fact that anything's amiss.

For most of the adults on the Barge, it's very likely that she still won't be sighted as the flood rolls on. She slips through the ship like a small ghost, methodically exploring the areas she can access - the winding stairs and corridors of the library get particular attention, because anything that much larger than the space it should occupy must hold interesting secrets - and vanishing around a corner or into an unoccupied cabin the second she hears an adult approaching. She stages careful raids on the commissary - and, on the rare moments late at night when there's no one around, on the dining hall - to collect portable food she's reasonably certain hasn't been tampered with, and creates little caches, carefully tucked away, to supplement the main one she builds in the cabin she woke up in. She searches for makeshift weapons, not very successfully, in the garden and the greenhouse to supplement the knives her older self had been too comatose to hide when the flood hit. At least one lamp goes missing from a common room. These things happen.

I. Hide and Seek (open to kids up to 14)

While she avoids the adults and older teens, she does approach some of the other young children - the ones who aren't attached to a Barge grown-up, the ones who are skittish or ragged or disobedient - with an offer of alliance. She has food, and she has a few boltholes, and they'll be far safer together than they will scattered across the ship, hoping they can avoid the threat posed by those larger and stronger and crueler than they are.

II. Stranger Danger (anyone 15+)

Yelena is clever, and cautious, and very good at staying hidden. Yelena is also ten years old, and does not have the depth of experience and knowledge of the Barge that she possesses as her adult self. She also doesn't have quite the same degree of patience or discipline.

So despite her best efforts, it's possible that one of the people she's trying to avoid spots her. If that happens, she'll try to bolt, or play it off like she already has a grown-up responsible for her. And if that doesn't work, well. She has a couple knives hidden on her person at all times, and she has her training, and this isn't the Red Room where the adults are organized, and alert, and ready to immediately subdue any girl who shows defiance.

A-Ning has a lot of rules to follow, but usually he can get it down to one. Don't leave his sister. If she's there, she can make sure he's as healthy as he can be, and not wobbly and weak (and obviously magically damaged, to anyone with senses to tell). She can help him escape diplomatically from grown-ups who don't want to be bothered with him and his disappointing ailments. She can make sure he's never alone with his cousins, who she's made clear probably would prefer he not get any older and potentially become a rival for their positions.

And she is strong and smart and figures things out.

He stays in the familiar room that makes sense as long as he can. There's water but not really food, and he can't reach most of the drawers and counters, or even read most of the books and papers. He's still working on his Thousand Character Classic. It's boredom as much as hunger that chases him out.

A-Ning is small for seven, dressed fussily in layered robes that don't look like they should stay neat on a child that age, and altogether looks like a somewhat sickly little doll. He tiptoes everywhere and regards everything with wide, wet eyes. He's most skittish of young men (which he defines as anyone older than twelve and younger than forty; it's rough when you're little) he can't help suspecting of alliance with the new, awful family that terrifies him, more likely to relax around women, and, oh, armed. If he gets real spooked, you might get stabbed with poison needles. It's not very good poison. Even Wen Qing isn't that deadly at age nine. It'll be a slightly painful and woozy experience. And he'll feel very bad about it.

I. Age 9: Outcast of Nibelheim

The boy is small for his age, skinny, with the same spiky mess of blond hair as his adult self but longer and pulled back into a low ponytail. His large eyes don't glow yet and there's no trace of green anywhere in them - only vivid blue. He's terrified, but he knows he can't let anyone know that, or they'll make fun of him and probably bully him about it. That's what always happens.

He's never been outside his village before and doesn't recognize this place at all. No one is familiar. He can't find Mom or Tifa or Brian or any of those dumb kids Tifa always hangs out with. He can't even find any Shinra guards. So he starts lurking around, finding unoccupied corners to linger in until he sees someone who might know something and be willing to share it. Even if they're not...he'll find out, anyway. He has to.

The next person who passes by finds this scowling kid moving to block their path.

"Hey, you. Where's my mom? Where's Claudia Strife?"

II. Age 13: Army Recruit

He's still small for his age, but a little less skinny. Still sports the ponytail, but now he wears an infantry uniform, though it looks a bit big on him. He's still quiet, but he scowls less and stands up straight more, especially around people who look like they're in uniform. He's still scared, but now he tells himself he can't be scared because a SOLDIER is never scared, so if he wants to be one, fear is the first thing that has to go.

He doesn't see anyone who looks like they're with Shinra, though. No infantry, no SOLDIERs, no Turks, no scientists in white coats. So if he's not with Shinra anymore, where is he?

He finds the library and thinks this must be the best place to get information, right? He hasn't seen any kind of receptionist's desk or anything, so this is probably the next best thing. So he goes inside and looks around for someone who might be in charge. When he finds one, he takes a breath, lets it out, and approaches.

"Um...how do I get back to Midgar from here?"

III. Age 16: Infantry Trooper

He's, yes, still small for his age, but the infantry uniform seems to suit him much better now, and he's ditched the ponytail. He carries a rifle slung over his shoulder with the comfort of experience and a helmet tucked under one arm. His posture is always impeccable, now, because he knows he has to prove himself to everyone, all the time, and he can't slack off. If Zack believes he can be a SOLDIER, then he has to try to believe it, too.

A SOLDIER is never afraid, so he isn't, either - and for the most part, that's now actually true. He walks the corridors of the Barge with his chin up, his ever-alert gaze always scanning for potential threats or people who need saving. This definitely isn't Nibelheim, or Midgar for that matter, but if Sephiroth is here, then he's supposed to be here for the mission somehow, and he won't let his hero down.

Anyone who looks like they're in distress or need help, or anyone in uniform or who otherwise looks like an authority figure, will get Cloud approaching them; the former see him approach quickly, with a certain efficiency of movement, while the latter see him approach briskly but at a controlled pace and give a salute. Either way, he says, "Cadet Strife, here to help. Do you need anything? What can I do?"

IV. Age 21: Who Am I?

He wears a First Class SOLDIER's uniform and his eyes now show that telltale mako glow with green veins running through the sea of blue, but he looks...unwell. Too thin despite the impressive muscle definition, with glazed, unfocused eyes. He drags the Buster Sword - Zack's sword - along with him, still too weak to lift it properly but knowing he can't let go of it, not for a second.

He wanders the Barge aimlessly, barely seeming to acknowledge his surroundings. He can be found anywhere on the ship - standing and staring into space, or sitting down mumbling incoherently to himself. Any attempt at interaction might get a response, but what kind of response entirely depends on the attempt itself.

V. Age 21: Ex-SOLDIER Boy

Anyone who's met one of the younger versions of him could be forgiven for thinking he might be a different person altogether. He's confident, cool, stoic, focused. He carries the Buster Sword on his back where any other SOLDIER would, and he does it with strength and pride. He's cocky, too, unafraid of a challenge and as cocksure as any elite supersoldier with the world as his oyster should be.

When he finds someone who looks like they might need help, he heads over to them without hesitation. "Hey. Need a hand?"

VI. Age 25: Barge Cloud

When Cloud is his own present-day self, he's always on the lookout for any children who look afraid, lost, hurt, or otherwise in trouble - or getting themselves into trouble. He's ready to step in and help, no matter what.

VII. Wildcard

I. The Usual Adult

It was another bloody Flood. Fantastic.

Collins couldn't be bothered to care. He went about his usual routine which mostly consisted of brief forays into the cafeteria and work at the library where he threw himself into all the sections whether needed or not. He spent less time in the gym this week since someone decided to make it a place for children and that caused Collins to avoid it like the plague after his first mistaken adventure in there. He even spent less time on the deck, but instead could be spotted smoking next to his cabin door more often.

Of course, just because he attempted to avoid all the commotion didn't mean he actually got to do that at all. He was bound to run into a regressed person or two. He was never going to be good with kids, but he was better behaved around them than one might expect. It would be just his luck if one got attached and bothered him for a day.

II. The Kid Option(s)

No one could avoid the Flood events forever. Collins may have spent a majority of his time blessedly unaffected, but there were some hours where that he spent as a younger kid. There were two different versions of child Dennis Collins:

The version of him that remembered being on the ship once before. He was cautious around the adults, but would recognize a few familiar faces. He tended to like to get into trouble when he thought no one would notice.

And the version of him that died young and went to a place much like an abstract hell. He didn't recognize or understand this place at all, and he wanted nothing to do with anyone. It pretty much looked like he expected nearly everyone to be after him and that he was ready to fight at any moment.

The change doesn't happen first thing in the morning. It happens while he's drinking his coffee and reading his book. One moment he's there and the next is Les, five years old, looking down at the coffee in disgust.

Once he's had his introduction though, he takes his big boy feet and explores everywhere. He has a slingshot in his back pocket and finds some rocks in the Greenhouse. He doesn't aim at people (dad told him never to aim at people) but he does set up some bottles and cans on a bench on deck to practice. Sometimes he misses. Sometimes they don't make it that far.

He uses his key to get into the art gazebo and colors on the papers there. He plays the guitar (badly) and pretends he's a concert pianist by banging playfully on the keys. He plays 'the floor is lava' in the common rooms and picks out a few books in the library to make a small fort in the corner.

He's having a very great dream.

There's a new ten-year-old on the Barge to match with the rest of the mob, and even from a distance the chip on his shoulder is practically visible.

But generally the young Simon is... fine. He's curious and intense but quiet enough. Catch him in the library running through the place, pulling books off shelves at random just to see the novelty of topics available on this weird ship. Playing with the engine room door to try and get inside, as if jiggling the handle will somehow let him in. Wandering through the wardrobe, again, just to see what the fuck is there.

(Like his adult counterpart, he avoids going up to the deck, as if the option simply doesn't occur to him.)

It's easiest, really, to find him in the dining hall the majority of the time. Taking second helpings of everyone and threatening to make himself vomit, but with a look that suggests he'll take the fingers of anyone that tries anything.

Level One

It’s not hard to see Zerxus in the boy that ~~flees~~ very calmly leaves his cabin; the dark tan skin and intent amber eyes, the gentle curl of his hair and the stubborn set of his shoulders. For a decent portion he has Tempus by his side, too, though he clearly lacks the ease of time.

There are no horns; there won’t be, through most of this week.

He’s dressed for training, not battle – a plain but sturdy tunic, a belt of pouches and satchels rather than weapons – but he won’t hesitate to run towards violence if it happens.

If he’s not wandering the corridors trying to parse the layout and keep an eye out for trouble, he’s offering his help anywhere he can: with the younger kids, the Kitchen or the Greenhouse, custodial or maintenance.

When he does take some time for himself, it’s in the awe of the Deck or the peace of the Library.

Level Five

In his early twenties, Zerxus is more focused. He’ll lend a hand when he sees that it’s needed, but his main priorities are healing and defense; he splits most of his time between the Infirmary and patrolling every inch of the ship.

He’s not in the full shining plate of the First Knight, just leather and chain mail, but he does have a sword at his hip and a shield at his back. He will set those aside, though, to decompress in the Lounge or the Library; a few times, he lets Tempus stretch his wings in the Enclosure.

The most jarring thing, even beyond the apparent species change, is how content and relaxed he seems to be.

Level Ten

This is the closest he looks to his current self: 37 years old, exhausted and grieving.

This is also the first time that Zerxus is outright frantic, and he won’t calm down until he’s convinced that his son his safe, his people are safe, and nothing will happen to them while he’s here. This may or may not involve a Zone of Truth spell.

Afterwards – well, he’s in battered half plate now, with a higher tier of sword and shield, so he largely falls into the same patterns. He’s more wary, more anxious, but he still leads with compassion above all else.

When he goes to the Enclosure, it’s to simulate cities that will never be the same again.

Arthur's Cabin

Arthur isn't in bed when Sheehan wakes up. But there's a quiet, audibly tentative plunking of piano keys from their lounge.

Minor Curiosity

Arthur looks utterly unremarkable as a pre-teen, and in light of his rapidly discovering how strange the Barge is, he's equal parts relieved and jealous. At eleven his hair's lost the brightest of the coppery gloss and settled into a dull chestnut, but his eyes are still bright brown and curious, despite the fact that overall he looks somewhat wan and threadbare. The Boys Brigade uniform he wears (really just a deep blue sweater and matching knickerbockers) has the washed-out look of something second- or even third-hand, slightly overlarge and meticulously repaired.

But it seems like nothing is going to stop him. Especially when he's sometimes being tailed by a large golden cat, or fiddling with the golden snake draped across his shoulders. He's absolutely shameless in wandering up to people in the middle of something and asking, bold-faced and openly curious, "What's that?"

Or- "What are you doing?"

Or even sometimes- "Can I help?"

Adult Matters

The first time he turns back into an adult, mostly he's just relieved that he's still wearing his pyjamas rather than a literal child's outfit.

He's not an adult as much as he'd like, but he is very much himself, and makes sure to leave a note on the wardrobe door reminding people that there's no active staff there for the duration of the flood. (Which might well prompt people to act up, but due diligence is necessary.

And he's actually good with kids, so. There's certainly worse floods he could be himself for.

Until one day he's even younger.

For people that have met Arthur's daughter, the resemblance is uncanny: the same long mop of copper curls, bright brown, almost amber eyes. The fact he's wearing a small sailor-like outfit might confuse the more modern crowd as to the four-year-old's gender, but he looks healthy and curious, apart from the obvious moments of initial terror for the tiny child.

A freckled face is turning up in all sorts of places, but the crop of red hair narrows down the potential passenger it belongs to. Though not specifically Irish, there’s a small list in his accent that seems distantly related. Dressed in denim overalls and a flannel shirt, he’s endlessly curious and full of warm smiles; never too shy about interjecting himself, but always making the effort to do it politely.

Jack spends most of his time in the Greenhouse, delighted by all of the plants, strange and familiar. He has a weakness for the nice hill with all the flowers, nearly disappearing in the long grass when he lays down. He’s also fond of the fruit tree across the path, and is often perched up in the branches with a fresh snack in hand.

His appetite seems endless, as it should be for a growing corn-fed boy, and he’s regularly in the Dining Hall, sneaking some more grub.

Harkin’s demeanor stands in contrast; he’s reserved, with keen eyes that don’t tend to blink much. His hair is more auburn, and smiles are scarce, at best. He wears a fitted uniform of a foreign police state, and though he’s barely twelve, he carries both a knife and rifle, unwilling to surrender either.

He wanders the halls, like he’s on patrol, but can often be found on the Deck, staring at the stars. One of the few things that makes him soften is a trip to the Kennels; who can resist the wag of a dog’s tail?

Sweeney isn’t sure what to make of all this, but it doesn’t seem to stress him as much as he would normally expect. He likes kids, at the end of the day, so he tends to be a sucker when they come around. That said, there are other folk about, as well, and those meetings can be far more frustrating, and leave him with the potential for a sour mood.
